Paint correction is the process of removing a fine layer of clear coat from the paint in order to remove light scratches, swirls, and imperfections from the paint. This is done with a combination of polishing products, compounds, and a dual-action or rotary polishing machine. In severe cases, wet sanding can also be done to remove even more clear coat in order to remove some deeper scratches.
